AP-BON Side Event at the CBD COP11

Objective

  • To disseminate the efforts of AP-BON for data sharing and integration, and for scientific assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services in Asia-Pacific region.
  • To discuss future activities of AP-BON toward the integration of traditional knowledge and science for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity

Overview

The side event consisted of four presentations and discussions among the participants. Four scientists gave presentations after the opening remarks and introduction of AP-BON by the Ministry of the Environment-Japan as the AP-BON Secretariat.

During the event, the participants discussed the priority activities of AP-BON. The presenters mentioned that contributions to the achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and support for the preparation of National Biodiversity Strategies in Asia are important as part of the AP-BON strategy.
Moreover, Co-Chair Prof. Yahara and Prof. Eun-Shik Kim emphasized the importance of the establishment of national BON such as K-BON and J-BON in order to strengthen the human network and integrate scientific data at the national level.
